The double bass player, arranger and composer David Ruiz was born in Puertollano. At the age of 16 he began touring and working professionally in the world of music. In 2005 he moved to Donostia-San Sebastián to study electric bass and double bass at MUSIKENE, being awarded several scholarships by the aid programme for coal mining areas.
Winner of the Certamen de Jóvenes Artistas de Castilla La Mancha and the BBK Jazz awards, he has been selected several times as a finalist in the competitions of the Getxo Jazz Festival, Jazz sur, herbe (France) and Donostia-San Sebastián. In 2014 he moved to Madrid, the city where he currently lives, where he combines his work as a teacher with that of composer, arranger and session musician.
In this concert he will present his album “Where we come from”. Musicians from different parts and cultures of the world have also made the birth of this work possible. Collaborations such as those of the Tunisian violinist and singer Larbi Sassi, the trumpeters Jorge Vistel (Cuba) and Miron Rafajlovic (Bosnia), the singer and saxophonist Antonio Lizana (Spain), the percussionist Shayan Fathi (Iran) or the dancers Nino de los Reyes and Daniel Navarro, have enriched the sound of the band, giving it a unique and special character. It is therefore not surprising that “Where we come from” has quickly become one of the best-selling albums among jazz lovers in Spain.
